YAY!!! We are in desperate need of a vacation and both of us are extremely excited. We'll be in "The World" for seven days and six nights. This is probably the most time we've spent together just relaxing. No work, no puppies begging for attention, just me and my man having fun. That sounds incredibly delicious. :)

So what's been happening in the Prine world... Well let's see...

First of all, my dog training classes have exploded at PetCo. I couldn't be more pleased. I've been busy with classes and seminars and I'm having tons of people request class times. I'm so glad to be training again. And the more I train, the more certifications I can get, which means more open doors in the dog training world!

One of our New Year's resolutions was to simplify our lives. After moving from Arizona back to Texas, we realized how much junk we have. Over the past two weeks we've been cleaning out the junk and reorganizing And I have to tell you, it's quite refreshing! We have more room, we're better organized, and the house is easier to keep clean without so much clutter. It's a work in process, but we're making headway!

I know I've mentioned the MaryJane's Farm magazine here. I'm still an avid reader and I'm slowly moving us over to a more organic, healthy lifestyle. I've started with an organic herb garden, shopping locally, and attempting to buy organic foods and meats. I've also pretty much moved us completely over to homemade, organic cleaning products. It's amazing how much money we have saved when we don't buy extra junk food and tons of cleaning products. So I'm pleased with how everything is turning out. So as I blog, we'll discuss some homemade solutions... For this blog, let's talk about the power of white vinegar! Vinegar is an excellent cleaner. It disinfects, it gets up gunk, and it can keep your house sparkling. To help clean toilets, pour some baking soda on areas that need to be scrubbed and then pour vinegar over baking soda. Let the mixture do the scrubbing for you! Mixing baking soda and vinegar is also a great way to clean garbage disposals and drains. And not adding extra chemicals is always a plus!

And last but not least.... My workouts. They have been going extremely well. I've been learning a lot from my trainer about good eating and good exercise. I've even gotten down to 196lbs! My goal is 150lbs and I can't believe that I'm getting there! It's also amazing what a confidence booster it's been. I feel better about myself and my body. Plus, my coordination is getting better, which is always good. :) I plan to continue on with my training and I'll get to my target weight!

Well my friends, laundry calls. Have a good night!

Picture time!

And I'm finished with contract work! Woot! Just sent in my last database and I should be completely finished. So happy! :)

There's a new addition to the Prine household. His name is Blue Boy and he is a Texas Blue Lacy. He's an absolute sweetheart and we love him. I think he's going to be a great falconry dog. We're going to try him at some tracking competitions too. Here's some pics of him...

Him being goofy...

And here's him just chilling on the bed...

Last week was South x Southwest in Austin. Sadly, we could not participate in SXSW, due to money, lack of time, etc. Next year though! But, we were able to participate in an awesome free show called DataPop 3.0 at a club called The Highball. DataPop 3.0 is basically a celebration of chiptunes and 8-bit music. For those who don't know about chiptunes, check out this website --------> http://www.anamanaguchi.com/

This group is probably one of the best known in this style and one of my personal favorites. We had a fantastic time and found a great new spot. The Highball is awesome in general and we fell in love with this place completely. Fantastic good, drinks, and an amazing atmosphere. Here's some pics of the show. All in all, we had a fantastic time.

And that's all for now boys and girls. Our holidays were fantastic. Full of good food and fun family times. After Christmas, Justin and I went to see his grandparents in Long Beach, Mississippi. We had a good time and I had tons of fun seeing all of Justin's childhood memories in person. Sophie particularly loved the beach. It was her first time seeing one and she throughly enjoyed herself.

2.) Sadly, Titan was lost to a Coopers Hawk scare during our first hunt. I spent two weeks searching for that bird with no luck. BUT the good news is that the new state falconry regulations passed and should go into effect by May 2010 at the very latest. This is very exciting as it opens doors to apprentices flying more birds. So who knows what is in store for me this upcoming season, but I'm very excited about it!

3.) I got a new job! I'm back as the Dog Training Instructor at my local PetCo. I am very excited about this. I had forgotten how much I had truly missed training. This should also open new doors for me in helping me receive several different training certifications. Hopefully this will also mean more money so I can finish school.

4.) I've also been very busy volunteering at two local rescues. I am helping to update the Austin Dog Alliance adoption sites. This is a great group of people. Hopefully Sophie and I will be attending their agility classes soon! I'm also hoping to sub-permit under a local wildlife rescue. I've been learning a lot from the local group and am thankful to be involved with them.

I suppose that's about it for now... I'm going to try to keep this as updated as possible. But again, we'll see. :)

Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday

Man, I love that movie...

So it's official! I'm a married woman! The ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The Judge who married us was so personable and fun. She did a wonderful job and I truly believe I was led to her the day I searched the Williamson County web site for local judges. I love how some things just work out so perfect. The reception was a blast, full of good food and fun. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them from my aunt.

Now onto some more serious things...

For those of you that don't know, HR2811 is the bill trying to ban the interstate transport and sale of pythons. Of ALL pythons! This is just plain crazy. And here are some reasons why...

1.) Pythons are no more dangerous than dogs, cats, or other pets. If we're going to ban pythons, then let's just get rid of them all. Your cat could scratch you and you could get sick. Your dog could maul the neighbor's kid. The class hamster could bite a child and do damage to a finger. Yes, I do admit, there are irresponsible reptile owners. Just like with everything else. I'm sorry that that young girl was strangled by a python. It's always a shame for someone so young to lose their life. But you know who's to blame? The stupid man who was not keeping their python correctly. What about the parents who put their child in a box and shoved it under the bed? There are irresponsible people every where. That's what needs to be dealt with.

2.) If this bill passes, where will it end? It's common knowledge that PETA and HSUS want to get rid of all house hold pets. So if HR2811 passes, who's next? Lizards and then hamsters. Fish and then cats. What about the great sport of falconry? We all know how many people are against that. Is that what will be attacked next? This bill could set a dangerous precedent.

3.) Even in this down economy, the reptile trade is still going strong. Ordering reptiles online is the main way most reptile businesses sell their animals. Many, many people would lose so much money if this were to pass. So yeah, that sounds like a great plan. In a bad economy, let's take away a business that's actually making money. Yup, good plan.

4.) And finally, I'd like to comment about how the pythons effect on the environment. In the four months that the Florida python hunt was going on, 37 pythons were found and killed. Only 37! Yes, I am all for conservation and keeping our natural habitats the way they are. But really, if they're taking of the Florida Everglades, then don't you think they'd find more than 37? And let's think about this for a second. When baby snakes are born, they are tiny. A person could step on one and squish one. So in the wild, when these babies are born, they have tons and tons of predators. Alligators, birds of prey, other snakes, humans, and what ever else you could think of that would eat meat. Not every snake is going to survive. An alligator could even eat a full grown burmese python. Yes, they may make themselves a place in the Everglades, pythons are not going to kill off all the other animals that live there.

So what can you do to help? You can call and fax every one who is sponsoring and co-sponsoring this bill. You can find the call list HERE. Today is the last day to do this, as the hearing is tomorrow. We need to stick together on this! The Reptile Nation thanks you for help!

Well, I think that's about it for now. I must get some work done. Or something. I must be productive! Or something. :)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://misadventures-of-a-spygirl.blogspot.com/2009/11/mawage-mawage-is-wot-bwings-us-togeder.html' title='Mawage. This is my last week as Erin Micah Henderson. Starting Saturday, October 31, 2009 my last name will be Prine. How very exciting!

I think we have everything ready for the big day. Just a couple of random odds and ends to take care of, but nothing major. I'm actually ahead of my cleaning schedule! Go me!

Saturday we went to find Justin's costume at this shop called Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds. It was a pretty cool place. It's a year round costume shop and it's HUGE! They have pretty much everything you could think of. And I was truly amazed at the amount of costume jewelry they had. We will definitely be back.

We also went to see Justin's little sister, Sarah, march in the Area Marching Band contest. She's a senior at the same high school we went to, so it was interesting seeing those old uniforms. They had a cool show and did pretty well. It was nice to go to a show again.

In falconry news, Titan is coming along very well. We had an awesome session outside yesterday. I was so impressed with him, since it was our first time out. I think he's going to be an awesome game bird. If he keeps progressing this way, we're going to be out in the field in no time!

Not much else to update... Not sure if there's any reptile breeding plans for me this season. Both the pastel and het albino ball python girls aren't up to a good weight. But we'll see. There's still some time. Still hoping to acquire a trio of some species of knob tailed geckos soon. I'm seeing some awesome deals out there, so hopefully I won't have to wait much longer!

Uuummm.... I guess that's about it for now. I'm sure I'll have some more interesting news as the week progresses. And of course I'll have a lot of pictures after Saturday.

Have a good week everyone!

Lots O' Updates!

Oh my goodness, where to begin on the updates!

Wedding planning is going very well. Pretty much all I have left to do is decide what I'm wearing for the ceremony. We ordered our wedding rings last night and it was very exciting! I'm just excited about the whole thing! I can't wait to see the cakes and the rings. I just can't wait for Halloween period!

Two Sundays ago I finally trapped my kestrel. I went to visit my grandparents' so I decided to do some trapping in the area. After driving all those miles and spending all those hours looking for a bird, I drive ten minutes away from their house and trap one by 9:00 AM. Of course, that's how these things always work out. We named him Titan and I'm very pleased with his progress so far. We went to the Central Texas Outdoor Expo on Saturday and I was very pleased with how he did. He acted like he had done this a million times before. I think he's going to make an exceptional game bird. He's a handsome fella, isn't he?

Justin and I had a very good weekend. Friday we had a date night. We went to dinner and saw Where the Wild Things Are. It was extremely well done. But it did make both of us tear up. It stirred up some old feelings about my mother and our rocky relationship when I was younger. But it had a good ending and left us with a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Then Saturday I went to the Expo and Justin hung around the house. He mowed the front yard, so I was happy with that. :) Then Sunday we went to the mall, had lunch, and sized Justin's ring finger. Then off to the Halloween store to buy costumes and decorations. I found a very pretty witch costume that I think I'm going to wear to our reception. Then we decorated the outside of the house and ordered wedding rings. Then to end the evening Justin surprised me by taking me to dinner to this great BBQ joint he had found. It was sssoooo good! First really good weekend we both had together in a long time.

Now I'm just hanging around for the people to come finish installing our new garage door and the guy to come and mow our backyard. The rest of the day is filled with laundry and cleaning. Oh joy!

Busy Micah is a happy Micah!

It's so true too.

Well, what to update... I've been busy attempting to trap an American Kestrel for the past couple of weeks. It has not been going well at all. And not for the lack of birds either. The dang things are just so jumpy! Every time I throw the trap out, the birds either bump or someone drives by and that bumps them. Arg, so very irritating...

Work is going well. I'm pleased with everything so far. Working whatever hours I want is extremely nice. Not to mention dressing however I want is awesome. :)

Well and the biggest update of them all...

I will finally be changing my last name at 2:00 PM on October 31, 2009! Justin and I are going to a justice of the peace on Halloween and doing the deed. We're very excited and happy about this decision. After 2 years of being engaged, we decided that a big wedding was just not for us. The move to Arizona threw all of our plans off and then after trying to plan it twice more, everything just kept falling apart. So after joking about just going to a JP and getting it done, I finally decided that this was for us. So that's the plan! Like I said, we're very excited and can't wait. :)

So that's about it. Just busy with trapping, work, planning a wedding, and other random stuff. Life isn't bad right now. Not bad at all. :)

Beware: Rant ahead

So a Monday actually started off pretty well. Sophie and I had a walk, cleaned out some critters, had a meeting, and then lunch. I actually get to work and get paid this week! Very super excited about that. But beware, dear readers... There's a rant ahead.

Begin rant.

So about this political bullshit with the health care and the Obama and the blah, blah, blah. I'm so tired of hearing about it! People need to grow up and shut the hell up. Yes Obama has some pretty radical thinking. Yes Obama wants to change things. Yes Obama is black. People keep going on and on about how he's turning this country into a socialist one. Well guess what?! Your children's schools are free, libraries are free. These are all socialist programs. Yes people, I said it. THESE ARE SOCIALIST PROGRAMS. Did you forget the definition of socialist? Apparently some people need to go back to high school government.

So fine, you don't want to help me pay for healthcare I can't afford. Fine. Then I don't think I'll pay taxes that fix your roads, pay for your kids' schools, and provide you with social security. I don't use the road you use every day, I don't have kids, and I will never see a penny of social security. Why should I care?

And let me just say this... I did not vote. I thought both of the candidates were wrong for the job. I would have voted for Ron Paul. No I don't agree with Obama on everything. Yes, I think his choice for Regulatory Czar is a horrible one. But you know what people? He is our President. Most of the United States voted for him. Unless you, yourself, plan to assassinate him (God forbid) or have some evil plan to get him impeached, then you need to deal with it. It's really easy to be patriotic when the person you voted for wins. But it takes a real patriot to stand by the person he didn't vote for.

So grow up. We're all adults here. Or at least most of the time. We all have bills, troubles, and woes. When 9/11 happened there was an out pour of compassion and voluntarism. Same thing after hurricane Katrina. So does that stop after the disaster? Are we only compassionate and caring when something bad happens? For those that can't afford healthcare, something bad is happening everyday. Medicines are expensive. For some it's a choice between eating for the month or paying for meds that will keep them alive. Guess I missed that memo. Memo to self: Only be compassionate during a horrible disaster. Got it.

End rant.

I apologize for the rant. But it's been really, REALLY bothering me. People screaming right and left about how Obama is breaking the law, not following the Constitution, and everything else is about to do me in. When you have in your hands and have completely read and understood everything official about what Obama plans to do, then get back with me.

So now that I'm done with that... Sophie and I are off to accomplish something now. Not sure what, but we are! Till next time...

Lazy Tuesdays...

We're back from visiting family this weekend and I am extremely tired. It was filled with fun, food, and good times. And I forgot my camera. Dang it...

I released River on Saturday. It was a good experience for me and I'm glad I did it. I think she'll do well in the area I released her in. May she live and long life and make lots of mean, biting babies. :)

I started work last week and I'm so glad to be back in it. I do like making money. :) I think this project will be a good one, but much easier than the last one.

Not much else to talk about. It's just been a busy, busy time. Planning out budgets, making plans for school, making plans for dog training, and making breeding plans. Trapping season starts September 15, so I'm counting down the days for that.

Bleh, sorry this post is slightly boring. I guess I'm still tired. Maybe something more exciting tomorrow.

Let the rain come!

It's finally gotten cooler today. I hear the sounds of thunder and hoping that means rain is soon to come. We need it badly.

It's been a busy, busy Saturday. We went to the bank, had lunch, did some gardening, and I worked with River. Not bad at all. We had lunch at the 620 Cafe and Bakery today. It was most delicious. We plan to go back soon. We also managed to come home with a loaf of banana bread as well. Let's just say that it's not going to last long in this house!

So, I think I've finalized the gardening plans. Where there are rocks (it looks like they started to fill in some sections next to the house and then stopped), we're just going to fill the rest in and put potted plants. In the front where there is soil, we're going to plant pretty flowers. I already planted 2 up front today that are supposed to attract butterflies. And yet again, I've forgotten their name. More greenery is going to go around the trees as well. I'm still undecided about where to put the garden in the back yard. My little brother suggested doing a raised bed and he may be right on the money because the soil here is horrible. It's going to take a lot of work though. Leaves need to be raked, weeds need to be pulled up, and some bushes need to be removed. But I think it's going to be lovely in the end.

I started dropping River's weight on Monday. She's acting like a screwed up imprint and being very talkative. Hopefully getting her working and hunting will take care of all that. I'm very excited about this upcoming season and so is my Texas sponser. I can't wait to see his falcon fly!

I have decided I'm am going to school next semester come hell or high water. By then I should have plenty of money and not have to pay "out of state" tuition fees. I've been out for way to long and need to get back into it. Hopefully Justin will also be able to finish as well soon.

And lastly, I want to tell everyone about this great magazine that I've been reading. It's called Mary Jane's Farm. I've never been a big magazine reader but this one I haven't been able to put down. It's all about being organic and self-sustaining. It has tons of information in there. From organic gardening to sewing to canning techinques to housekeeping. It is well written and full of fantastic pictures. I've already gotten several great ideas from it and plan to continue reading future issues.

Well, that about covers this week's happenings. The thunder keeps rumbling outside. I hate how every creack and crevice of this house has a freakin spiderweb in it. It's a never ending battle. I swear, as soon as I have some extra cash, I'm hiring a cleaning lady. Damn it.

Now that I've ranted....

So I officially start work on September 1st. I received a new work laptop, downloaded all the software needed, and am ready to go. I am very happy to have something to do again. Besides clean.

The new laptop isn't bad for a Windows machine. But it has only reinforced my love for Apple and their beautiful user interfaces.

Justin and I went to see Ponyo on Friday. All I can say is that it is AMAZING. It was beautiful and fun and nonsensical and everything I hoped it would be. Now let's hope that the live action Alice in Wonderland is just as excellent.

My button quail lady is still popping out eggs like it's going out of style. Hopefully I'll have some baby pics soon.

Man, I'm boring lately. That's about all I've got. Maybe more tomorrow.

I gots the allergies...

Ugh, this weekend has been full of miserable allergies. I think I'm going to cut off my nose. I really don't need it, right?

So it's official. The pastel female did slug out of me. I'm in denial about it.. The eggs are still in the incubator, all sad and dented. I'm just assuming the stress of the move, plus this being her first year had a hand in it. Oh well. The Het Albinos should be ready to go next year. We'll try again.

On the other hand, my button quail female has been laying like crazy. Hopefully I'll have some hatching in mid-August. Thinking about picking up a "fancy" pair to add some more color to my lines.

Justin started his new job today. I'm anxious for him to get home. I want to hear all about it!

In other working news... Looks like I will officially be working again the first week of September. YAYS!! I miss having my own money to buy things... I mean to pay bills! Yes, to pay bills with... This time I'm working with Army curriculum instead of Air Force. Should actually be easier this time around because I know the software so much better now. Needless to say, I'm ready to start.

Nothing else really of interest has happened since I last updated. I'm ready to get the kestrel going again. It needs to cool off soon.

So yeah, this blog post is really boring. Maybe next time there will be something more exciting.

Have a good week everyone!

Stuff and Important Things

Well, it's been a busy week. TPW lost my permit check (think we've finally gotten that sorted out), trying to get ready for my TPW inspection, and Daddy's birthday was last Friday. Oh and let's add job hunting to that. Not to mention this unknown rash on my face. Yes, it's been fun.

So... Let's update!

River's moult is moving right along. No tail feathers have dropped yet, but all of those fun, fluffy feathers have pretty much exploded every where. Sophie has really been enjoying eating them.

And the big news of the week.... The female Pastel laid eggs!!! That little lady has been holding out on me! I finally gave up because I never witnessed an ovulation. So when I went in on July 25th to check on her water, she hissed at me! This sweet girl never hisses at me! So I look over and see a perfect coil. Needless to say, I was thrilled but caught completely unaware. I scrambled and finally got an "okay" incubator. Keeping the humidity up is a constant battle, but I think it will work. In the mean time, I'm searching for other options.

Pic of daddy, Armand, male Spider Ball Python

Pic of momma, Maherat, female Pastel Ball Python

This is an older pic of her, so never fear, she was up to weight when she was bred. She gave me three, nice eggs. I'm hoping and praying the humidity stays up, because I would love a bee!!!

In other news... Justin has several job offers and interviews next week. I think he'll have a job soon. It'll be a big relief on both of us. We're not hurting by any means, but it's just nice to know that one of us has a good source of income.

Speaking of income... My really super cool contract job has been put on hold for now. Sad day for Micah... Apparently some issues have come up and everything has been delayed. I'm hoping this will change soon because I LOVE working from home. But I'm not hopeful. Other applications have been sent out, so I'm hoping to hear from one soon.

Now for the serious news... Some of you may have heard about HR2811. You can read about it here. ----> Click Me! Now, I realize not everyone is a snake person. But stuff like this could potentially affect everyone. In a nutshell, this is what HR2811 is about: Because of the recent Burmese Python scare in the Florida everglades, some people have decided that banning ALL pythons is the answer to reclaiming the everglades. On Wednesday, the bill was passed with amended wording banning on the Burmese Python and African Rock Python. If this bill were to be passed into a law, it would ban the import, export, and interstate trade of these two species. Because of the efforts of the United States Association of Reptile Keepers and others who are like minded, this bill only lists these two species, not all pythons.

Now here's how I feel about all this... The fact is, people bring all sorts of species and animals from across the world to the United States. We risk these animals escaping and causing chaos all the time. We know for a fact that a lot of animals, including Burmese Pythons, escaped during the crazy hurricanes Florida experienced years ago. Many of these animals were never accounted for. There is absolutely no scientific proof that the wild Burmese Python population was caused by people releasing these animals. I will say that yes, probably some were intentionally released. But is this a reason to punish the responsible keepers? No. Should there be some sort of permit program for keeping these animals? I say yes. Having a permit program for falconry DOES help weed out those unworthy of pursuing the sport. Not all, but a lot. I do believe that having a program, similar to the falconry one, would be of some help. I believe that letting the government ban two species only allows them to get their foot in the door to ban more.

Think about this... There is scientific evidence that the feral cat population is affecting the wild native bird population. So should all cat owners give up owning cats because irresponsible people let their unaltered cats run free? No. But laws do need to be passed to keep these irresponsible people in check. It's the same thing.

So what can you do? First of all, research the bill and others similar to it. The above link is a great place to start. Then check out the United States Association of Reptile Keepers. They are always on top of things and has some great information. The No HR 669 site is very good too.

Another valuable team player in helping he Reptile Nation is the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council. They'll help you get in touch with your state rep so you can voice your opinions.

This thing is going to affect all of us sooner or later. Do your research and if you agree that HR2811 needs to be stopped, then please do your part!

Well, that's it boys and girls. Time for bed. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

No more boxes!!!

Well, we finally did it. We unpacked all of the boxes! All the shelves are put up, all the books put into place, and everything for the most part is neatly put away. All we have left to do is to arrange stuff on the walls. It's a great feeling.

Found a new Texas falconry sponsor and got all of my paperwork turned in as well. All I need to get set up now is the mews. That's going to be the toughest part, due to the stupid HOA.

So now for the rant of the day... Home Owner's Associations.

I have some really mixed feelings about HOA's. They are super intrusive, expensive, and pretty much a giant pain in the ass. I hate having strangers that have no clue about me or my life telling me what to do. I already have to deal with a landlord and adding a random board of directors makes life extremely complicated. BUT... Out of all the neighborhoods that we looked at, the one with the HOA was the nicest, cleanest, and safest. The neighborhoods without a HOA tended to have trash everywhere, broken down cars parked in the streets and in yards, and just didn't have a feel good, safe feeling about it. In this neighborhood, I know I could go walking in the evening and not feel threatened. I am happy with the decision we made and love the new house already. It's just one of those things I'm going to have to learn to live with. Bleh.

So since we've moved to Austin, I've been inspired to jump in the political pool. I've taken an active interest in the political side of the two hobbies I am most passionate about, falconry and reptiles. Falconry is probably one of the most hated hunting sports in the world. U.S. falconers are always under strict laws that are sometimes unfair. And ever since the threat of H.R. 669 I've been throughly researching reptile/exotic laws and keeping an eye on things. I truly want to make a difference in my hobbies and being in the capital of Texas helps a bunch.

That's about it for now. I've a huge "To Do" list for tomorrow and it's late. Off to bed for me!

Almost there...

Moving is so tiring. It tires me physically and emotionally. We're almost all packed up and about ready to load up. Still trying to come up with the best game plan to keep all the animals comfortable. So close to being done... Then we get to unpack it all!!

So let's see... What's been going on...

Well first off, a couple of new kids have joined the flock. We have 3 new button quail. They're actually pretty freakin cute. I'm hoping they will ease the food burden for River a bit. We have 1 male and 2 females. Pictures will come soon. Sadly, the quail eggs did not hatch. We had way to many problems with the humidity. I guess it's for the best though. Dealing with baby quail and moving would not have been fun.

On a more exciting note, I finally think my pastel female is gravid!! Took her long enough! I found her inverted the other day and now she's acting like she's nesting. She's starting to look plumper too. I'm very excited about this and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Justin and I did manage to find a house in North Austin. It's super cute and has an awesome back yard. Praise the heavens for trees and grass! Plus, it comes with a back porch swing! I'm also thinking since we've gotten rid of so much stuff that most of the animals will fit in the closet. It will be much easier to control humidity and heat that way. I'm so ready to get this moving thing over with...

And finally, I would like to take a moment to remember my little ball of fury, Dragon. Sadly, I had to make the call to put Dragon down while we were in Texas house hunting. Apparently, he came down with an ear infection, which quickly spread to his brain and became septic. We didn't even notice the neurological signs until we were headed out to Texas. The doctors and staff at the clinics were just awesome. I wanted to particularly thank one of the vet techs. I don't even remember his name, but he was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. He held my hand though the entire process and was a great sounding board when making my decision. In the end, even though we could have afforded the treatment and everything else, I believe the stress of the treatment would have killed Dragon on it's own. Even in the end, the little bugger tried his best to climb to the top of my head to show me he was in charge till the very end. I must say I do miss my morning greeting of "gimme a kiss". I'll miss you little buddy.

I have pocky in my keyboard

So while waiting for Justin to get home from work, I thought I'd post some pictures of what's keeping me busy lately. Enjoy!

So here is my latest project. Raising quail! Hopefully, this will be helpful in feeding the kestrel. Don't you just love my home made incubator? Those eggs are pretty stinkin cute too.

So last Saturday was a girl outing. The whole point of said outing was for me to see some sights that I hadn't seen yet. One of our ventures took us to the Sugar Bowl, which is an ice cream parlor. This is what I had and it was super delicious.

More pics to come as I take them.

I finally was able to find a jug that I thought was cute enough to make sun tea in. I haven't had sun tea in so long and for some reason the other day I was craving it. So while at Khol's trying to figure out how to spend the last of my gift card, I found it! It's blue and has fishys all over it. Very cute.

I'm an anxiously waiting to start my job. I'm ready to be doing something again. I mean, I can only clean cages so many times in a week. Hopefully all the paper work will be moved along quickly. Getting antsy.

Well, that's really about it. Life is kinda dull at the moment. Not that I'm complaining because it's bound to get crazy during the move. It always does. :)

Trying again...

So let's try this again, shall we?

Our year in Arizona is coming quickly to a close. Justin's last day of work is this Friday. And all I can say is that I'm relieved. After holding my breath all year, I feel like I can finally relax. No more yelling, no more threats. He's done with all that.

Well, the Kestrel is up for the moult. Now if she'll just start dropping feathers. Our battle with her feet is coming to a close it seems. Praise be to the falconry gods because I'm not sure h0w much longer I could handle the cleaning.

I'm starting to become slightly discouraged that my female Pastel isn't taking. I've counted eight confirmed tail locks between her and my male Spider. This is her first year though, so maybe I shouldn't expect to much. I'm am getting giddy over the fact that my female Het Albino seems to be growing through a growth spurt. Fingers crossed she'll be up to weight next year.

Speaking of ball pythons, you know you have them on the brain when you have a long, detailed dream about someone just bringing you a box full of babies they just can't take care of anymore. We're talking balls of every single morph you can think of. It was a good dream.

Well, that's really about it. I finally went grocery shopping, Sida flew well, I got a lot of work done, and the nachos I made last night tasted awesome. And then I went to bed.

And had the worst nightmare I've ever had.

Justin and I were at my grandparent's house for some holiday. Family was over, there was good food, pretty decorations, and general merriment all around. Then Justin looked over at me and said, "I'm ready to die. They're going to bury me alive. I've left all my things to you." I just stared at him. I tried to sputter out questions, such as "Why?" and "Don't you love me anymore?". He got up and I followed him out of the room. He led me to the grave that some sort of city workers had dug outside. A city worker explained to me when a person decided they wanted to commit suicide, the only legal way was to bury themselves alive. Apparently this had become a new law and was fully monitored by local government officials. Or so the city worker explained to me. Then I became hysterical. I was crying and screaming and begging Justin to not go through with it. He told me everything would be all right and climbed into the hole. The workers started to cover him in dirt. I ran away and back into the house. I climbed into my bed and started to scream. My family came in and attempted to console me. They said that this is what Justin wanted and I would be taken care of. No one could understand why I was so upset. The next thing I knew Justin walked into the room. I thought he had changed his mind and everything was going to be ok. I jumped into his arms and cried how I was so glad he had changed his mind. He just calmly looked at me and said, "No, I'm still going to be buried alive. But the law says I need to be buried in a suit." My grandmother then went off with him to help him find something. The next time I walked outside the workers had buried Justin up to his head. I sat down beside him and started to cry. He talked to me and told me that he loved me. Then they finished burying him and he was gone. My family told me I should probably start looking for a better job. I started to run away. I kept screaming and telling myself this surely is a dream. I needed to wake up!

So I did. I woke up.

And Justin was laying beside me. I put my hand on his chest and felt it move. I felt his heart beat. And then I cried. Justin woke up and just pulled me close. After a bit, I explained to him about my dream. His response was just to pull me closer and tell me how much he loved me. Then I felt better. It was only a dream. One I hope to never, ever have again.

I told you I sucked at this

So I said I was bad at blogging, didn't I? So some updates...

I got my bird. We trapped Sidalee on Sunday, November 10, 2008 at about 3:30 pm. Her training is going well and I'm having a blast with her. I've started a log on several falconry sites that I have linked so if you're curious, check there. I'll try to keep it updated here as well.

We made it to Texas and back again safe and sound. I have an absolute blast during the week. It was so good seeing my family and eating good Texas food. Now I'm homesick all over again. Bleh, Christmas can't come soon enough.

I bought six Christmas presents before Thanksgiving and I have some good ideas of what to get for several others. I'm so proud of myself!

I should be working but instead I'm half watching X-Files and cleaning up this old Dell laptop that is my work computer. I really should probably start going to Starbucks or someplace like that to work so I don't get distracted as easily. Bleh.

Well, I'm off to work Sida some more. Or work. Or do laundry. At least I have options. :P

Being a hermit is nice...

I've decided I like being a hermit. Most people drive me crazy and make me angry. Dealing with papers and money and stupid people just aggravate me to no end. Bleh. Being a grown up is lame sometimes.

So I met with sponsor John and did falconry type things. :) He gave me a trap to put nooses on and we made flight jesses. It's funny how making the nooses soothes my anxiety. Keeps my mind focused but it puts everything bad and painful in the back. It's nice.

It has been fantastic the last few days, except for the fact that Justin has been working insanely stupid hours. He worked from 7:00 am to 2:00 am yesterday. I'm so glad we moved all the way to Arizona to be treated like crap. I miss him in the evenings. The dog and the bird can only converse for so long. :P But the last few days I have done nothing but play WOW, watch House, and straightened up the house a bit. I love spending time with my friends and doing things, but being by myself is nice too.

I keep checking my mail obsessively. If I will it hard enough, my federal permit will be here. So far my Jedi mind powers are lacking.

Life is running smoothly

Well, in the eyes of the state of Arizona, I am a licensed falconer! *Does the happy dance* Sometimes it's nice to not be working. I was able to drive forty-five minutes to Mesa on Friday to the Fish and Game Office so I could hand deliver my application and permit fee. They weren't busy, so they took care of me then and there. Yays! I then ran back home to gather up all the documents needed to send off to the Federal office. I checked and triple checked to make sure I had everything they needed. I then sprinted to the PostNet store where I send off all my mail at. I made it about fifteen minutes before the postman so I know it went out on Friday. I sent it priority mail and also got a confirmation put on it, so I'm hoping it'll be there by Tuesday. *Bites nails nervously*

I went shopping with a friend today. It was nice to be a girl and do girl things. I bought some much needed jeans.

I'm insanely ready to go Texas for Thanksgiving. I miss my family and Texas like crazy. I'm ready for some good, old fashioned, family fun. Good food and fireworks are always a given at one of our family gatherings. I'm counting down the days...

I'm so sorry these are so boring right now. Hopefully once I trap the kestrel my ramblings will get more interesting. Then this will turn into a training/hunting log. I'm getting so antsy. I'm ready for this bird!

Sunday Musings...

Well, we finally finished the mews last night. All I have to do is seal it and treat the wood. So that means on Monday I'll call to schedule my inspection. Very excited!

I'm planning my week out and it's looking to be a dull one. I need to get my oil changed and finally get my registration moved over to Arizona, as well as my driver's license. Lame.

Planning a day trip to Sedona for next weekend and then planning for Thanksgiving vacation. Very excited about going back to Texas. I miss the Lone Star State and all that it holds...

That's about it. I've found my writing style always matches my mood. I feel choppy, restless, and unfocused. I've become bored here in Arizona. The job search is going horribly. I thought this might be an outlet for the boredom.
I suppose this first post should be an "about me" sort of thing. I'm an aspiring ball python breeder and a pre-apprentice falconer. Hoping both of those will change to a higher status this fall. I love all animals, reading, cooking, nature, camping, genetics, dog training, movies, making things (collages, pottery, water colors) and studying animal behavior. Hoping to go to school this spring. My paperwork was held up in the mail, which is why I'm attending school this fall. I worked at PetCo for three years and learned a lot about business there. I have a fiance, Justin, and love him more than anything in the world. He's held my hand through the worst times of my life and is still here. I think that means something. :)

My life was turned upside down when my little brother and I found my mother dead on the morning of March 20, 2003. Later I found out she died from cardiomyopathy. It was probably the worst time in my life. Without my family and Justin, I don't know how I would of made it though it all. But as the saying goes, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I grew up in Central Texas in the Waco/Valley Mills/Speegleville area. Graduated high school and then got the hell outta there. Justin was attending the University of North Texas in Denton, so I moved up there. I had my ups and downs at UNT. I couldn't settle on a major. When I finally did, I had a horrible time with on of the professors that was teaching exactly what I wanted to do. I ended up taking over her position as Canine Education Instructor at another PetCo, which was requested of me by the manager. It wasn't pleasant and I ended up dropping that class. After that, I kind of stopped thinking about school. Hoping the degree plan I'm interested in at Arizona State will peak my interest again. Both Justin and I loved the DFW area. Denton was a small college town, but when we wanted to go to a museum or an indy theatre, Dallas or Ft. Worth was close by. Denton was also two hours away from family and close enough for a weekend trip to Austin. Then in late June, Justin's company gave him an offer to move to Scottsdale, Arizona. The job sounded like a good opportunity, especially for a junior developer who was still getting his degree. Plus the move was going to be completely paid for. And here we are.

I think I would like Arizona more if I wasn't living in Scottsdale. I don't like getting stares at the grocery store just because I'm wearing jeans and a T-shirt. As I stated before, the job search is going horribly. I either don't have the experience or the schooling or something or other. I'm trying to stay out of retail, but so far it's not looking good.

However, I have fallen in love with Flagstaff. Justin, Sophie (our Shih Tzu), and I went camping in Coconino National Forest and had a blast. We're planning on some more weekend trips to explore the area more.

The falconry project is coming along. I'm getting restless about finishing the mews. I'm ready for my inspection and to get my paper work going! I have all my equipment except for a scale and a bath pan. I keep reading and re-reading everything I have. Getting anxious. But I guess I've waited this long, so a little longer won't kill me.

I am super excited about this November. It will be my first ball python breeding season. If all goes well and some of the girls gain weight, I'll be putting some together. Keeping all my fingers crossed.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. I'm going to attempt to keep this thing going. Hopefully it will end up being a training/hunting log for the new bird. Until next time...
